Para se distinguir do tipo antigo, o novo tipo terá as pernas do "寶" separadas, enquanto o tipo antigo terá as pernas do "寶" ligadas (parecido com o ス). No entanto, apenas as moedas de liga de cobre são separadas, uma vez que existem algumas moedas de liga de ferro com o "寶" do tipo antigo.
Mesmo após a reforma monetária no período Meiji, as moedas de cobre Kan'eitsūhō ainda são usadas para 1 Rin, enquanto as de ferro não podem ser usadas. Estima-se que as moedas de cobre Kan'eitsūhō tenham circulado até meados do período Meiji. De acordo com a lei fiscal que entrou em vigor em 1 de abril de 1916, a unidade Rin é arredondada, fazendo com que as moedas Kan'eitsūhō começassem a desaparecer da circulação geral.
A partir de 4 de abril de 2010, as moedas de cobre Kan'eitsūhō voltaram a ser utilizadas como moeda local em Kan'onji, na província de Kagawa. As lojas que aceitam Kan'eitsūhō aceitam-nas como 30 ienes, independentemente do tipo 1 Mon ou 4 Mon. Os de ferro não são aceites. No entanto, alguns tipos raros de Kan'eitsūhō podem valer milhões de ienes, portanto, gaste a moeda com cuidado.
William D. Craig não separou o tipo antigo e o novo, resultando no mesmo número de catálogo C#1.1
David Hartill também apresenta uma lista de algumas moedas estrangeiras fundidas, feitas como moedas chinesas (Annam, Japão e Coreia). O intervalo de anos de cunhagem de Hartill é ligeiramente diferente, no entanto, ele diz:"São conhecidas centenas de variações no anverso e reverso desta moeda. As obras especializadas darão as suas atribuições às casas da moeda".
