(en) Benin, officially the Republic of Benin, is a country located in West Africa. It has a rich history dating back to ancient African kingdoms, and has been influenced by various cultures, including indigenous tribes and European colonial powers. The currency of Benin is the West African CFA franc (XOF), which has been the official currency since Benin gained independence from France in 1960. Prior to the adoption of the CFA franc, Benin had used the French West African franc as its currency. Benin is known for its diverse cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, and art, as well as its natural beauty, with national parks and wildlife reserves offering opportunities for wildlife viewing and eco-tourism.
