Arkadi Molvõgin is a distinguished Estonian numismatist renowned for his extensive research on medieval coinage, particularly focusing on Western European coins discovered in Estonia.
Arkadi Molvõgin was from 1961 to the early 1990s keeper of the numismatic collections at the Institute of History of the Estonian Academy of Sciences.
His seminal work, Die Funde westeuropäischer Münzen des 10. bis 12. Jahrhunderts in Estland, published in 1994, provides a comprehensive analysis of Western European coin finds in Estonia from the 10th to the 12th centuries.
In collaboration with Ivar Leimus, Molvõgin co-authored Volume 51 of the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles, titled Estonian Collections: Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Norman, and Later British Coins, published in 2001. This volume catalogs and illustrates British coins held in Estonian collections, offering valuable insights into the circulation and influence of British coinage in the region.
