Damon G. Douglas (?-1974), a prominent numismatist and engineer, was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of Cornell University's College of Civil Engineering, he began his career with Turner Construction Co. in New York City. In 1931, he established the Damon G. Douglas Construction Co. in Newark, New Jersey.
Douglas became a fellow of the American Numismatic Society in 1943 and served on the Society's standing committee on United States coins. From 1949 to 1951, he held the position of president of the New York Numismatic Club. Starting in the 1940s, he contributed extensively to numismatic scholarship, publishing articles in The Numismatist, the journal of the American Numismatic Association, as well as other respected publications. His work remains a valued resource for the numismatic community.
