Heinrich Behrens

Heinrich Behrens (1828-1913) was a German merchant and numismatist renowned for his contributions to the study of Lübeck's coinage. Born to Lübeck merchant and senator Jacob Behrens, Heinrich followed in his father's professional footsteps, establishing himself as a merchant in Lübeck.

Behrens' most significant scholarly work is the 1905 publication "Münzen und Medaillen der Stadt und des Bisthums Lübeck," a comprehensive catalog detailing the coins and medals of both the city and the bishopric of Lübeck. This work built upon Johann Hermann Schnobel's 1790 catalog and incorporated specimens from the collection of merchant Alexander Roeper.
