Joe Cribb (born 1947) is a British numismatist specializing in Asian coinages, particularly those of the Kushan Empire. Born in 1947 in Brighton, Sussex, he studied Latin, Greek, and Ancient History at Queen Mary College, University of London, graduating in 1970. He began his career at the British Museum's Department of Coins and Medals, where he eventually served as Keeper of Coins and Medals from 2003 until his retirement in 2010.
During his tenure at the British Museum, Cribb curated the major exhibition Money: From Cowrie Shells to Credit Cards in 1986 and developed the museum's first Money Gallery. He authored pioneering catalogues on Chinese silver currency ingots and ritual coins of Southeast Asia, as well as extensively researched pre-Islamic coinages of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kashmir, and Afghanistan, with a special focus on the Kushan kings of South and Central Asia.
Cribb has held significant roles outside the museum, including serving as President of the Royal Numismatic Society (2005–2009) and Secretary General of the Oriental Numismatic Society (2011–2018). He received the Medal of the Royal Numismatic Society in 1999 and the Huntington Medal of the American Numismatic Society in 2009. In 2021, he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Numismatics at Hebei Normal University in China.
