Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia
Victor Emmanuel III (1869–1947), King of Italy from 1900 to 1946, was not only a monarch but also an esteemed numismatist and author. His profound passion for coin collecting led him to amass an extraordinary collection of approximately 100,000 coins, spanning from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Unification of Italy. This collection is considered one of the most significant in numismatic history.
In addition to his collecting endeavors, Victor Emmanuel III made substantial scholarly contributions to the field. Between 1910 and 1943, he authored the "Corpus Nummorum Italicorum," a comprehensive 20-volume catalog detailing his collection. This monumental work remains a vital reference for scholars and collectors interested in Italian coinage.
His dedication to numismatics was further recognized in 1904 when he was awarded the medal of the Royal Numismatic Society.
