Wayte Raymond

Wayte Raymond

Wayte Raymond (1886-1956) was an American numismatist known for his significant contributions to the field. He authored several numismatic books and catalogs, with his Standard Catalog regarded as the leading coin guide of its era. In 1969, he was inducted into the Numismatic Hall of Fame.

Raymond is perhaps best remembered for creating coin boards and albums, which allowed collectors to organize complete series of coins. For example, his 7.5-by-14-inch (190 mm × 360 mm) cardboard pages with sliding plastic windows could hold 70 coins, including every date from 1857 to 1909 for Flying Eagle and Indian Cents, along with notable varieties like the 1858 large- and small-letter versions. These boards were the forerunners of the millions of coin albums used by collectors today.
