Are other members collecting Poland 2 Zlote coins (mainly late 1990s early 2000) seeing a lot of coins without the Lettering: NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★ on the edge? I am starting to get worried that the ones that I am purchasing may be fake. Anyone have any comments? Thanks.
Browsing the commemorative 2 złote coins from 1995-1999, I see that many, but not all, have the edge that you describe. The ones from 1995 have segmented reeding. The following two are described as having a plain edge:
So, since the edge can vary between types, my suggestion would be to check the Numista page for each 2 złote coin type that you have, and then see if your coin has the same edge as listed on that page.
Thanks WACKO for the reply. How accurate are the details on Numista? For example, I have a Poland 2 zlote 1999 "Chopin" coin that has edge lettering of "BANK POLSKI * NARODOW *" but on Numista it says it has the lettering "NBP ★ NBP ★ NBP ★". Do you think the issue may be inaccurate info on the coin descriptions? Thanks again.
Yes, it's possible that a page could have an inaccurate description. If you think this is the case, you can go to the bottom of the page for that coin and click on "Modify or add data on this page". You can then edit the the edge description/lettering/picture, or copy that info from another 2 złote coin that has the same type of edge (for example this one, if its edge matches yours).
For the Sources portion of the form, you can say "personal observation". Numista staff may ask you to provide pictures of your coin to validate that it has the edge you describe.
Please keep in mind I'm very new here, so I'm not 100% sure how the editing process works, since I've never done it myself!
I guess I will try to GOOGLE search Polish coins & see if I can find an official site with official details. Maybe see if the Polish mint has any info. I don't want to say the info is wrong if it isn't. You know what I mean?
Yes, it's good to do research on a coin to be certain of the details.
Narodowy Bank Polski lists the coin, but unfortunately doesn't give a description of the edge. However, other sites such as ucoin.net and numiscorner.com do list the edge inscription as "NARODOWY BANK POLSKI". This guide to Polish coins also lists the same thing.
My 2004 polish catalog list the edge as 'NARODOWY BANK POLSKI'.
When I was entering my coins in Numista I encountered several that were listed wrong on Numista. I only requested changes for the coins I have in my collection though...
Thanks all. I will have to go through all my zlote's & get back with you. I have about 300 Polish coins. I think the issues are the 1990's through the early 2000's. When I get some time, I will go through them & see if I have any other issues. Thanks again.
