Ok, I've been searching for quite a while now and I also read the Terms of Service, but I can't find the answer. I'm building a website with my own collection on it, using the Numista API. The API provides the URL of the image pictures, as well as who has the copyright and an URL if applicable.
I would like to know if I'm allowed to use the pictures on my personal website. It speaks for itself that I mention the copyright and add an URL if it's available. The website is purely personal and there are no commercial intentions whatsoever.
Citação: "Idolenz"If you are building a website for your own collection why would you need other peoples pictures?
Well, I collect by type and for now, it doesn't matter to me if I show the actual coin in my collection, or just an image of the type. I do have plans to digitalize my own coins, but that's a long-term project
Numista is not the owner for most of the pictures. You would need to ask each owner whether you can reuse their picture on your website.
I understand this is quite difficult in practice. For some coins, the coins are published under a known licence:
Example: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces250363.html
Perhaps we could improve Numista in two ways:
Return the licence in the API
Allow users to specify the licence when they add their own pictures
Sorry if I'm meddling in none of my business. But I would like to ask, as a person who received several source permits specifically for Numista. For example, some organization has given permission to use the images under our guarantees not to use the images in any other way. How can these images be used in this case without putting the Numista at any risk? How can our promises be guaranteed? Why can the results of our work be handed over to someone else? (agree with any organization, upload images or photograph them yourself, edit images, search and replace with better images). How would that be better than Colnect's actions? I'm sure I'm not the only one who is unhappy when he sees somewhere (not on Numist) the images that he uploaded and edited.

That's the exact reason why we should allow users to specify the license on their photos. If you're not comfortable seeing your photos anywhere else than on this website (and you have every right to feel that way!) then you should be able to specify this. Providing this feature will get rid of questions like this
But who will say anything for other organizations? Who will make "some kind of license mark"? After all, by default, these images can only be used on Numista.
Except for a few organizations who asked us to reuse their image under a specific license, the pictures from third party websites are published on Numista with their permission specifically for this usage. For any other usage (i.e. reusing the pictures outside of the Numista catalogue), people should seek again permission from the third parties.

So the default license should be 'Numista Only'.
The copyright line is usually authorised by the copyright owner when they grant Numista permission to use their photos.
Other entities use open licences, such as the creative commons licences. These specifically require a link to the copyrights owner and to the public licence itself: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces250363.html

The problem I see here is what Cyrillius brought up: Usage of copyrighted pictures with special permits.
To me there's only one solution to "save" the pictures of Numsita from being "stolen" by other websites and people, and that is to block the posibility to copy the pictures. I know absolutely zip about computer programming, but I have came across websites where you cannot copy or dowload their pictures, so at least I know this is possible. This, to me, seems like the only solution to this problem. If then a member of Numista wants to use the pictures provided on the website, s-/he can either spend the next year and a half to asked every member whose picture it the main picture of the listing for premission, or simply ask in the forum for pictures, like smvdbrink did here.
When it comes to coins I don't have the best pictures, but I would gladly share them to members who wants to use them for their private use, and I think many more here wouldn't mind.

It is impossible to stop someone copying a picture/image that appears on your computer screen. All you have to do is press the PRT SC button (Print Screen) on the top line of your keyboard, then paste what you have captured into any Image editing software such as Paint Shop Pro, Gimp etc etc.
