Numista's dashboard map influence in collecting

8 publicações
I acquired last week a Greenland coin, see the picture, it was quite expensive. I wanted to get one of the 1926 series but they were more expensive! I have crossed my monthly budget and will not buy coins for a couple of months now :( But I just couldn't bear anymore the white large island on my dashboard! If it wasn't for Numista's map I wouldn't have bought a Greenland coin! Now I have coins from 224 "countries" :)

Now I have only some small white spots as Nauru, Palau, Micronesia, Comoros, British Virgin Islands etc. but at least those are hard even to spot on the map! :)
I would be curious how Numista's map influences you on collecting, so share your thoughts!

Here is my original coin:

Firstly nice coin ! I was trying to get one from everywhere but now I only focus on the empire I'm
Trying to get rid of the coins I have from other countries but for the ones which have sentimental value (from my grandad) just to see exactly how broad it was :D the map is a great feature IMO however the small islands likes of Niue, Nauru etc should be a bit easier too see as I have great eyesite and I struggle to see them so I hate to think how older members or members with partial site struggle on !
That is hilarious, I felt the same way for a long time and learned to ignore it, however if I acquired a coin from Greenland, I wold be very happy.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
The dashboard's very useful for anyone trying to collect a coin from each country. You can easily see which regions you have very few coins from and which are the most common countries in your collection.
Trying to get a coin from each UN country with circulating coins. 20 to go!
Reading older Topics (and seeing Dashboard space) I noticed that both Greenland and Danzig were hard to get, so though I do not collect by countries, I keep watching for them and separately got one of each ...

So yes, the Dashboard influenced my getting them, though I was in no rush.  8)
And for me too 'If it wasn't for Numista's map I wouldn't have bought a Greenland coin!'.
Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
Ummm... absolutely! At least it gave me a direction to start collecting something. I've always kept foreign coins that I'd found in small change etc. This is basically how I started collecting.

As we all know when you log in on Numista, it brings up your dashboard. It's fairly hard not to ignore that. I need to fill some of the African countries to complete my map. Then I'll try and go for the lot lol. I also want to acquire the entire Palestine series. I have all their denominations but I want to collect all dates too. Could be a long wait...  :Zz:
As a youngster, I like to find NZ pre-decimal and foreign coins that had made It's way into circulated coinage.

The thought of holding a object of the past with it's hidden history really intrigued me as a youngster...and still does.

Not really - it depends on the Numista page that is saved in Bookmarks/Favourites. Mine is the main Forum page; could be any of these below ...
