I noticed that Numista now has a category for the coins of New France, and I believe the 30 denier coin should be added or mentioned. The ”Mousquetaireas it was called, often found their way into French colonial circulation for export, and was even struck specifically for export at the Lyon mint.

AFAIK the usual modern opinion is that the mousquetaire (and half mousquetaire) does not belong under colonial issues, and is listed in the Red Book mistakenly.

EDIT: I do, however, believe that the 5 sols and 15 sols of the 1670 issue belong to New France, and consequently have sent modification requests to that effect.

EDIT 2: looks like the Lyon (D) mint version probably was colonial, but the Metz (AA) mint version (which, alas, is the one I have) probably wasn't. If we're moving this type to New France we might have to split it between the mints.

I’ve added a request for another New France issue around the Edict of 1640.

Regarding EDIT 2, I’d like it if the mints were split. However, I’d like to mention that there was a real possibility of Metz mint coins finding circulation in New France, seeing as how the 30 denier coins had higher value there. I purchased a 30 denier coin from the AA mint and it was shipped from Minnesota, possibly indicating colonial circulation (?). I’m no expert so take what I say with a grain of salt.

This part is done. I also improved both pages along with the 2 deniers one.

Rejected as the 30 deniers coin is correctly listed under France.

These coins were produced following an edict of 1709 for the Kingdom but not specifically for New France or the colonies. The only specific variation was for Alsace were value of coinage was different.

I’ve added a request for another New France issue around the Edict of 1640.

Rejected for the same reason as above.

The countermarking followed an edict of 1640 but was not specific to New France or colonies. This was a general reform.

Here is the correct listing: N#37353.

Ah, got it. If only numismatic history was more cut-and-dry 😄. Thanks for the reply and the hard work you do on the Numista team!

Forgot to add links above for both but in case you want to check edicts - both are in “ancient French" -, here is the one of 1709 and here is the one of 1640.
