hello… hope you are all doing fine

i began to collect polish banknotes and commemoratives. i have a question : how to know if the banknote is a replacement especially  anything after 1993 to present day

i have noticed a couple of banknotes over the internet  began with serial number Y… is that enough info ?

in general i love to collect replacements only…

thank you all

There used to be a website that provides a list of replacement banknotes country by country. That was some years ago, and I am unable to locate that site now. It would be good to have such info to assist with our collection.

Current issue Polish banknotes use the letter Y in combination with another letter to identify replacment notes.

N#209016

This is probably also true for the series issued prior to the current notes as the numbering system is similar, though I need to research this to be sure:

N#207645

I have been trying hard to get some from cash machines when I am in Poland, no luck yet though!!

thank you for thr reply

from my little searching  on different websites i found that series begins with AA are usually more expensive due that they are put in circulation first

for replacements … all the banknotes i have seen over diffrerent websites begins with serial Y  from 1994 -on . also on PMG graded note they mention replacement/star. i thought there is a star on the note same as USD replacements .

In the case of pre-Euro Irish banknotes, the technical term used in production for replacement notes is ‘star’ notes, possibly from the US system when which used a star to identify them when they were first introduced. This term may also be used in other countries which do not use an actual star to identify the notes.
