Coin won't fit Lindner capsule?

Hey Everyone!

I was hoping to find some help / tips for the problem I am facing with some Lindner capsules.

I have some old Austro-Hungarian coins which I wanted to move into some higher quality capsules from the old Aliexpress capsules however all Lindner capsules are so tight that the coin won't fit or will fit into the capsule by applying pressure and get stuck. If I do force one, then it's incredibly hard to remove…almost had to destroy the test capsule to get a 1 Corona coin out of it when I pushed it in too deep.

An ex. of a 23 mm 1 Corona in the capsule fitting quite snugly:

However take for example this 1 Florin, which is 29 mm according to the data, won't even fit into the 29 mm

N#7004

Logically I assumed that these will fit into 29 mm capsules:

Can I do anything with them (apart from repurchasing slightly bigger ones+I want them to be in the proper capsules, not one size bigger) or am I misunderstanding and this how they should work? Should coin capsules even hold coins so tightly that they have 0 wiggle room?

I'm honestly more disappointed than mad at the current situation because currently to me it seems the Aliexpress capsules were the better choice.

Thank you!

I have had many of the same issues with different brands of capsules. Brand does not really matter in the end and I just came to the conclusion that a MM or two larger was the way to go. It doesn't really hurt the coin to have a very small amout of wiggle room. The only downside is you must have many, many sizes available if you have a large coin collection because you don't want to have too much wiggle room.

Thanks for the input! I have the same thoughts about the wiggle room. I guess I'll just leave them in the old capsules then and will get new coins into these capsules.

There are tolerances in the capsules and slight tolerances in the coins / plus thermal expansion can play a role in extremely tight situations.

For coin flips you can get away with a few 1/10th of a mm to big (but here I'd choose the next bigger size instead too) but capsules are not so forgiving.

If I would use capsules I would need to have a set list of coins that would go in there and also not to many, they are relative expensive and bulky (so I wouldn't need so many different extras lying around) not really practical for my collection style.

The only capsules I use are for my 1 ounce rounds and even there it is sometimes a luck draw if they fit either the coins or my tray 🥲

if you're having difficulties to remove a tight capsule, you can use hot water to expand it.

Yeah, different brands have different outside circumferences too 😅

For capsule storage I'm thinking of hunting down a tray that can hold them standing vertically so that would save space and it would also be easy to take out. The prob is that it would have to accommodate at least a range of different sizes to make it practical. I guess technically I could move the coins into big capsules with foam inserts but that is yet another expense and like you've said, it can get expensive really quick.

Thanks! I'll keep it mind, but I've learnt my lesson and will not force coins into capsules again.
