Le monete da 50 p del Regno Unito hanno lo stesso diametro e peso indipendentemente dal fatto che siano argento o rame-nichel. Presumo che la differenza sia nello spessore per tenere conto dei diversi pesi dei metalli stessi.
La stragrande maggioranza delle monete commemorative viene coniata in rame-nichel per la circolazione generale o più recentemente come "esclusive" da collezione. Tuttavia, la Royal Mint li produce spesso anche in argento e oro (e molto occasionalmente altri metalli preziosi come il platino) - presumo per i collezionisti più ricchi. The 50p coins of the UK are the same diameter & weight regardless of whether they're silver or copper-nickel. I assume the difference is in the thickness to account for the different weights of the metals themselves.
The vast majority of commemorative coins are struck in copper-nickel for general circulation or more recently as coin collector "exclusives". However, the Royal Mint also frequently produces them in silver and gold (and very occassionally other precious metals such as platinum) - I assume for the richer collectors. They also often produce double-thickness (and therefore double-weight; 16g) silver coins called "Piedfords".
