Byzantine Empire 40 Nummi - Phocas Cyzicus [Resolvido]

3 publicações • visualizado 70 vezes

I recently bought few coins. This one was named by the seller as “Fokas, follis, 605/6 AD, Kyzikos 11.59g”.

The coin weights 11.59 g and has around 31.4 mm diameter.

Obverse:
- bust in center, holding cross(?)

- around bust text: “DN FOCAS…”

Reverse:
- date text first line: “ANNO”

- date text second line: “XXXX”
- to the right of “XXXX” there are two lines: “II” and “II”
- horizontal line with text underneath: “KYZB”

My search here on Numista ended up with these coins:
- 40 Nummi - Phocas Constantinopolis

- 40 Nummi - Phocas Nicomedia

- 20 Nummi - Phocas Cyzicus

It seems this one should be some new coin “40 Nummi - Phocas Cyzicus”.

Your coin looks quite similar to SB 665 on this page

Phocas, 602-610 AD. AE follis, Cyzicus. DN FOCAS PERP AVG, crowned, mantled bust facing, holding mappa and cross, cross in left field / ANNO to left, regnal year to right, mintmark KYZB. SB 665, MIB 76.

Yours looks like year 44.

Thanks. I added the coin (still pending review): N#397111
