Hey! I remember you!

If you've ever lost something that wasn't too near and dear but still bugged you to not have, you know what my life has been like for the past year and however many months. The coin featured above is that thing. I lost it some time in late 2011 - early 2012 and, while it wasn't the star of my collection or anything, it was my oldest foreign coin and I thought it was pretty cool. It doesn't have a reverse, or at least not one worth posting which is why I didn't mind when it escaped from my collection. It did bug me to not have my awesome old German coin, but it didn't have much more of an effect. I forgot about it from time to time, only to be reminded of it when I passed by it in the catalog or saw a similar 2 cent coin. Today I got to thinking about it and not really wishing I still had it, just wondering where it was. Around an hour later, I decided to clean off my desk and guess what I found in the deep, dark depths... this coin! I was excited to have it back and somewhat astounded that I hadn't found it sooner. Pretty cool what 10 minutes of reorganizing can do.

So, have you ever lost a coin or anything at all that was later recovered? Share your story with the world!
I once "lost" a coin without even knowing I even had it.

Every week I get at least one letter from a seller on eBay. One seller was kind enough to send along with the coins I bought from him several extra coins, one of them being a Dutch zinc 25 cent coin. When I opened the letter, I must've dropped the coin on the carpet, since I never heard the coin fall anywhere. One day I had to fix the speaker cables to my super loud speakers cause I'm a badass, and I felt a coin. Without looking at it, I felt reeding and found it was the size of a quarter. When I picked it up, I was like, "How the hell did this get under my desk?" I never knew exactly how, but it got there and it's in my collection now.

Do you ever clean under your desk?  :D
I was going through some coins that I had picked up recently and I was looking at a Victorian Four Pence (Groat), I dropped it and  heard it make a noise. When I went to find it, no matter where I searched, I could not find it at all. Many weeks later I was tidying my spare room where my collection belongs and I was shifting about a lot of things. As I moved my record collection, there it was underneath a bunch of vinyl. It just shows that the laws of physics sometimes make up their own rules!

LOL a badass coin collector who shares his name with an easy-listening saxaphone player?

I lost a batch of coins last year, it turns out my 3 year old had decided to post them into a hole in the carpet.  I had to pull up the carpet to get them out, guess it's time for some new carpet.

Kenny G. is a badass.
I have a similar story - I used to have a van and one day cleaning it out I found a 2 dollar Canada coin down in one of the crevices after I had had this van for four years never losing any coins to begin with and I live in the U.S. It was a great find to my surprise I always wondered how it happened. I guess the previous owners must have been Canadian or took a roadtrip there is my only assumptions but anyhow it was great find for me because it was one of the commemoratives I hadn't had before.
When my parents moved into their current house about 15 years ago, they had some trouble with their dishwasher. So they pulled it out and behind it there were a whole lot of silver half crowns.  About 5 or 6 of them.

these ones here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4406.html
I'm waiting for two coins to reappear now. I'm hoping it don't take years!

One of them is the six pence I inquired about here: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic5241.html
It disappeared during my move last year, and I'm hoping it is still in a box that I haven't needed to unpacked yet.

The other one is: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1121.html
I think I lost it somewhere in my truck.

I'm hoping to have a pleasant reunion with them both, soon.
My worst loss was a whole bunch of Queen Victoria full face queen stamps that I had bought.  I couldn't find them a few weeks after I had bought them.  Then I remembered that I had put them in the back of some large books to keep them flat.  Then with horror I realised that I had donated those books to the local book sale.  No chance of a happy reunion with those little babies.

Damn that sucks.

They will turn up eventually. If they were MNH or unused, then you're really screwed.

I would die if that happened to me.

yes but someone else will find them, perhaps years from now, infact that's how you got your half crowns, we all have found something someone else lost.
Here's to found treasure! May we all find something soon, even if it is small
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

I have been trying to find some copper bullion items I got in the post from the U.S.A. a few months ago, to make pictures for the copper bullion thread on here. Still not found them, unfortunately - but I did instead find this that I do not remember getting. It is in an envelope postmarked September 2010 which I guess was before silver prices went crazy. I think this beauty in a capsule has gold plating.
Not sure whether to be upset about temporarily losing the copper rounds or finding this ...

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
I found this beauty amidst other old coins

Why would you be upset about finding that?  ;)

I think the 5 Lire coin is a bit overgraded, I would say it's F+ based on obverse (king side).

I know I haven't even heard of the grading company either - I think I should remove it from the the case.
