Good day, friends and colleagues!

Unfortunately I have to open the topic, which I never faced before on Numista.

This person dennis_hanoi  became a scammer  https://en.numista.com/echanges/profil.php?id=52174

We agreed on swap in February, I sent him coins and he got them. There is no issue with amount or rarity of coins - not so much. The issue is that he started to lie and tell me fairy tales.
He blames Vietnamese post that they have problems and bla bla bla and he cannot send coins. Then he told me that some his friend from Germany will send me coins we agreed. and bla bla bla.
Since then he answering me rarely and tells fairytales about status of the swap.
Dennis is already reported and I proclaim him in the blacklist !
With all my reputation and YEARs in Numista I was always careful and friendly. Many many of you knows me as a professional swapper and person. But I cannot keep silence here anymore!

Dennis - if you still want to keep ANY piece of reputation - IMMEDIATELY send me agreed coins.  Anyway you will be treated in other way by me and others.
By the way I am too mercy and not placing zero stars in swap until I get coins or any final result.

Sorry for that emotions, but enough is enough!

Regards
Stalevar

Really unfortunate to hear that, given the amount of swaps the user has and the almost immaculate feedback given on their swaps, I am inclined to say they may be some truth in them having problems posting. I do hope this is the case and that you will soon get your half of the swap.

-Ash

In the respect to counterpartner - in 4 month he could think about any other options and do that. Not just talking about that.

I know that in some countries indeed there are problems with post (Canada for example right now), but anyway..

I don't really believe in this claim. There is no proof to back up the claim.

please don’t take my responses seriously

@Mr._Investor really?
ok, here is the discussion: Enjoy

Stalevar, June 12, 2025, 11:37 am

You are REPORTED! It is enough!
IMMEDIATELY SEND COINS BY ANY MEAN OF TRANSPORTATION! This is a SCAM. I will do the message on Forum that you are ignoring me , telling lies and etc.

I need coins you promised ASAP.

Ok, I am waiting for coins and your messages about that.

dennis_hanoi, March 4, 2025, 3:37 pm

Dear my friend,

Sorry for late response. I have not sent the coins because two reasons:

     1. Currently, the taxation service in Vietnam has changed from new from 1st, March.

      2. Futhermore, the air service for postal to Finland, Spanish has been halted.

In the case, the postal service cannot work this week, I will ask my friend in Germany to send my extra coins at his house to you.

Please do not worry too much. I do not try to cheat you for 5 or 6 coins.

Stalevar, March 3, 2025, 1:13 pm

Hi Dennis

Can you reply? Have you sent me mail too?

Hope you will get that soon!

Please let me know when you send.

With regards

Answering once a month and no actions - that is really a problem. Almost in the middle of june I dont have any practical solutions from Dennis.

Normally Asian Postage is poor. This is why I only do swaps with developed countries only.

I understand that very slow replies are a little annoying but there's no need to scream at eachother (using all caps) in messages.

I also feel it's a little taboo to share private messages between users.

@FlyingRedPanda you know - I am the very patient person, I had so many so hard swaps, that I have seen all.
But here is smth new. Almost no communication, no practical steps, just words. I see that he proceed with other swaps, he place and got ratings - that mean that all is ongoing. But not with me.  and as you see from the chat - he was first to say that he will not cheat with me. That was suprising to see.

I think it is the first time I use cups in text. :(

In my opinion there is not such thing as ‘developed countries’…only developed/decent/honest people excists, once in a while, no mather what country they are from. In other words: useless b*stards are everywhere…

Dear Stavaler,

I have responsed for your email in personal email. As you want to raise the issue as public, I will propose the solution in public as well.

     1. As the small swap between us did not make you happy, I will send back all the coins from your side.

      2. The 5 Euro as part of the swap will be sent from my friend address in Germany. As I mentioned to you, I have not checked the stock of my coins so it appeared that the coins you selected have been out of stock. The only way is ask my friend in Germany to purchase and send to you. It is not easy to rely on the action of 3rd person but I have no choice.

      3. As long as you respond here, I will also made a report to the Admin Xavier to avoid this small issue to affect my well established reputation.

I hope this will clear out the situation for the very rare swap between me and many other good, mature collectors that I have had during the past 10 years. Eventhough in the past, I have sent a set of collection of silver to a real scam and I lost them. But I still keep calm and made an email to admin Xavier instead of crying out in the one topic like some other "developed countries" collectors.

Honesty is the best policy

Very true yvon. I have had 3 or 4 swaps from India. Never lost one ,but took anywhere  from a week and a half to 3 months for them to show up. But losted 20 to 30 with US mail, UK mail Canada mail, and France mail.

It is, what it is, or is it.

I replied on his message.

I am really not trying to kill someones reputation. Dennis made harm by himself to himself.

If he send me what we agreed - I will be satisfied.  The sad truth is that to make things happening - I had to make that public. That is really sad.

We are all here making ourselves happy collectors with our beloved hobbies. But also we should be happy and sincere to each other. Keeping our promises.

Thanks for the reply, Dennis, and I am waiting for coins we agreed. You should be careful in what you say and do, that is all.

P.S. Doesnt matter AI or not was used to write messages.

Nobody is saying they are using AI, only you because you ran it through a detector and the best it could do is 50/50 AI or not. It's clear that English isn't their first/native language so get off their back about AI nonsense.

The behaviour of  Denis Hanoi before starting a swap was already “suspicious” to me. Too eager to swap, nice, valuable coins to offer.

In general, be aware of anyone that does not behave as the average Numista user.

CirculableCoins

Well, after his announcement about the solution - NO news since then. He even not replying. Still seems to be scammed. Cause in such situation any proper person will IMMEDIATELY act properly to solve that. But nothing yet. Sad

I have a similar situation with dennis_hanoi ((((

At the beginning of May, we agreed to swap silver coins for a rather decent amount for me. After I sent him my entire part of the swap, he sent approximately only half of his part (at the cost, but not by quantity). Moreover, he simply presented me with a fact accompli after he had already sent his coins. There was no agreement, no stipulations that he could not send his entire part at once.

He explains this by the fact that he sent the remaining coin for grading by NGC via Japan (by the way, he also asked to conduct the swap through Japan, through his friend in Japan). And upon returning, these coins were detained at Japanese customs. It turns out that he offered the coins for swap and agreed on the swap without actually having all the coins on hands. If this was my first swap with this user, I would definitely consider these actions as deliberate fraud. BUT since I had successful swaps with Dennis before, I fully admit that everything is as he describes. He got into this situation unintentionally. As a result, at the moment I am at a decent loss( . But, I repeat, I admit that this could have been unintentional from his side.

It's upsetting that he has started avoiding contact. He doesn't read my messages. The last one was on June 15, in which he promised that his friend in Japan would send me the remaining coin as soon as he resolved the difficulties with Japanese customs. No news after that. He never confirmed receipt of my part of the swap, although I can see from the tracking that my letter has arrived. In general, it seems to me that the Dennis has chosen the wrong strategy of behavior.

Therefore, if Denis reads this forum (and most likely he does), I will repeat here my message which he never read:

“If you can't fulfill your part of the deal for some reason, then we can cancel it. Please return my coins that I sent you and that your friend or you received. And I will return your 5 coins that I received from you.”

So things getting worser, some unclear friends in other countries (in my case in Germany), ignoring messages, etc.

More to say - in case of Michass and my case - both Dennis had not coins he was agreeing! Meaning that it was a lie.

Bad

Dennis - immediately return coins to me and other people like Michass and appear.

Well, the story goes way to long. I was too polite. Dennis got his zero stars with explanations why.  Scamed 100%.

If Dennis can't send coins by mail, then he can always pay for the coins he receives (paypal , wire transfer). Simple.

I think that applies for most of us. But if he is not able to send you the agreed on coins, for whatever reason, atleast the compensation-money can be used by you to buy coins. And he shows, by doing so, that he is not a real scammer.

@yvon things are worser - he is not even replying at all

We should take into consideration, that the man is, maybe, facing problems much bigger than coins…
Moreover he has a serious amount of 5-star-reviews. I am afraid it is bigger than just a planned scam.
He might be even dead…

...you can run,  but you can't hide...

@yvon I started to think that his account might be hacked indeed. But from the other hand till june he was continuing doing swaps (we started our swap in Feb25). So it cannot be someone without coins otherwise how that swaps were successfully completed. So many questions still there are open.

Numista doesn’t have 2FA available for accounts so I’d think that it would be easy to hack to account on this website.

I understand the feeling of being wronged, but we should mind our words before labeling someone a scammer.

All kind of things which we know nothing about may have happen after all, so we should take that into account shouldn't we?

Best regards to you all

Cents are money too!

@Dutchgalego  - all what is happening since March is looks nothing but scam. It is a private messaging between me and him, I put here only few messages, but described enough.
I am not happy what is going on, but if its not a scam - the reply and explanations and excuses had to be said already. In timely manner.

Unfortunately all confirmed - either he became a scammer or the account scammed :(

You all know we know by now. It seams to me you are all beating a dead horse. He has now become one that has to send first.

It is, what it is, or is it.

That is it!

...you can run,  but you can't hide...

My theory is that Dennis passed away sometime in the May-June time frame with two open swaps. Someone (family member, friend, etc.) realized after valuable coins were received at his residence that they could keep them and not have to send any of the coins Dennis left behind.  He has not been on Numista between a month and a year ago (approximately) and has no open swaps.  That would explain the 199 apparently good swaps before the last two “scams.”  I think this saga is over.

@fjjohnson , well all that time he was still answering it was looking last someone (obviously not himself) tried to convince that he is still valuable swapper and tried to keep the level, to get more coins, scamming. But that not happen, fortunately. My swap was not so big, and coins are not so rare, but not cheap. And i am sad generally of what happened.

But yes, seems that this page may be closed.

Sorry for the late replies! However, both theories would prevent him from defending himself properly; no?

He said what he said before (even here), but nothing happened since that time, no actions or comments. so defending process ended. I would say - ruined.

I have another theory, I think he reached his unc age and got eaten by Tralaleo Tralala when he went to ocean to spend his weekend resting. Then I think the Chimpanzini Banani saved him and brought him to Australia where he spent two weeks traveling all over the world to Germany, France, and Spain with his friend Tung Tung Tung Sahur.

This is ridiculousness.

I can second this, Dennis sent some of the agreed coins but later cut off all communication. Lost a lot of good coins. There is another 0 star review for him as well. I had a good previous swap with him so I agreed to a bigger swap but unfortunately got swindled.

For me it looks to be clear; Dennis is, maybe, dead and some crook is using his account to
 steal coins.

Hi All

Amazingly he appeared yesterday in messages, telling that he was in a long trip and he sent me back my coins, NOT ALL , except 1 coin (instead he sent other two unknown coins). Used registered mail and sent me photo proof on invoice.

This is strange, though it is better later then never. Anyway his explanation of long trip (where no internet exists? is there any of such places still in the world?) - that is what I have.

Anyway I see already 3 ratings with 0 starts and scam report.
it is not changing my opinion about him. He had to inform all in kind manner that he will send all or send back things in 2, 3, 10 month, whenever and he is on some long trip and cannot reply. Instead of replying previously how he was replying.

Truth should be 100%. At least what can be told to others.

In Vietnam there’s places where there’s no internet is accessible.

Unfortunately no such luck for me, hopefully you get your coins back. Wish you luck.

I am shocked!

He started THREATING ME!

He said in the message:

"I have my own business with tight schedule. It was not easy to follow up on the Numista during my work.

For any exchanges in Numista, I have NOT cheated for any amount of value of swapping. That is the first point I declare.

For own the mess or any topic in the forum you have raised, it is your obligation to clean it up. Furthermore, I request a remove of bad rating from your side before I send my request to admin Xavier."

Really!?

Dear @Xavier

Before it all started to look like a huge problem, please step in and check this branch of messages. Please let us know what you think

Thank you!

Have you even received your coins yet? Why is he sending an request to the admin?

@Brickzstudio  - never. Neither coins I agreed to receive, nor my coins back. He sent me coins 1 or 2 days ago - as he said - my coins back to me, and without 1 coin, he admited, which he replaced by some other coins. Weird.

I sent him 6 coins, so he sent me back 5 and 2 more coins as replacement. I see the tracker and invoice that coins are coming back to me.

I want to remind that the swap was opened in January 2025 :))))))

That’s good at least. For me he has not sent any messages or any news about the coins. Sent him multiple messages. I assume he only sent back your coins in hope that you can close the forum post and probably will ghost me and the other guy. :(

@Brickzstudio

That is the point - I want to inform all and make warning to be careful! I am here on Numista since 2012, and I respect everyone here. The most horrible thing here is a scam. Xavier and others created trustful and friendly atmosphere of collectors and I wish prosperity to our site. It should be safe place.

So I hope you and others who are waiting, can get your coins back or promised coins.

He placed me ZERO stars for the swap telling that. REALLY? He got all coins from me and put zero stars!

This is ridiculous, and he is clearly active but hasn’t replied to me at all 🙁.

Imo it is still possible (even likely) some bastard is using his account.
I can not imagine somebody behave like this after 10yrs membership and so many 5star-swaps.

Well. This is the end of tragedy.

1) With my endless appreciation to Xavier - he eliminated ZERO stars rating given to me suddenly by Dennis, fairly considering that as a revenge.

2) After endless dispute got my own coins back, except 1 (which was compensated by 2 other coins). Had to pay custom fee for custom clearance of my own coins back. :(

Not all of us Americans are like this. I have swap with many “different countries”. Had very few problems but then I also had problems with “Developed Countries” I also had a swap or two with this member and gave him a 5 stars. So who knows what's going on. Just saying.

Of course not everyone, but it's a very American thing to boost and glorify themselves and speak disparagingly about others. Where's the humility?

I don't speak disparagingly, I just share my personal experiences, that's all. Mostly by people I've met face to face. If those are the small “boasting American” minority, then I'm looking forward to meet the majority of Americans. I'm not saying I haven't met humble Americans, but they are only a handful, so far.

I don't see why this upsets younso much. If I'm right, sure it's upsetting, for all of us. But if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, and there's nothing be upset about. You could just laugh it off. 🤷‍♂️

Well, unfortunately 2 more swappers became trapped, not checking history or trusting.

He tried to swap with me twice, but he “smelled” so I declined. Later I read in few occasions other people sharing suspicious info.

Stay away from him

Not sure, what got to him? He had a stellar record which he simply threw away. I have his WhatsApp and will try calling and find out, provided he answers.
