Hello. Can anyone identify this medal. I can’t find an exact match online anywhere, only similar ones. Weighs 17.9 grams … 35mm diameter

Here's the aluminum one N#52151 Yours looks to be pewter.

Hello. Yes I’ve found the aluminium version. But I can’t find my version anywhere ! Really is a mystery

The only one I could find was this one: N#52151 which is made of aluminum so the weight is very different. Yours must be the same design but a different metal composition, possibly clad or silver. I can't find any other record online.

We must have been typing at the same time, I didn't see yours before sending mine.

Not listed in W&E, type 7085A. Check for hallmarks on the edge, likely white metal as mentioned by others. Since it's missing you should add it!

After research ( which sends me round in circles ) I think it might be silvered bronze maybe … I just don’t understand how there is no origin and not one single other of this medal. Is this normal for there to only be one of a medal ?

Silvered bronze makes sense. There is still plenty of research to be made in this field. Your particular piece seems to be made by J.R. Gaunt

Yes i believe that too. I have searched for hours and just can not find its origin or another piece the same.

Is this your auction?

Hi Kenny, it's a variation of W&E 7088A by J.R. Gaunt, but with the Langford Jones obverse as opposed to E. Carter Preston. Not listed in anything but gilt bronze though, so a new variant.

Thanks for that, ZacUK! I learn something new every day!

Hello. yes that is my eBay listing !

Still cannot find a match online for my one anywhere. Is it normal for there to only be one of a medal ?

Well, we're still adding new ones as we go (hopefully you'll add yours) but yes, it seems yours may well be rare, considering Whittlestone & Ewing haven't catalogued it.

How do I add it ? Also I wouldn’t have a clue what information to put for it. Could any of the fine members of this forum use the pictures from the eBay listing to add it to this site ?

I can help you do it, and I'm the referee who will assess it.

Best way is to go to the similar medal N#52151

Then go to near the bottom of the page where there is a link “duplicate this page”

That will take you to an editing page where you can change the elements that are different for your medal, such as composition, weight etc.

If you can add your photos with cropped backgrounds even better, but if not, we'll crop them for you after you submit.

Any questions, just send me a private message ok?

Cheers

Simon

I’ve added it  Please alter any info that isn’t correct ( if any ) as you are much more qualified to do so than me.

I chose silver as the metal .. i wasnt sure what to select. Maybe it is pewter .. I have no idea. It does have the ring sound of silver and non magnetic.

I've approved it. We'll go for silver just now, unless someone can prove otherwise. The fact that it is cased suggests it is likely to be a precious metal.

Cheers!

Simon

I disagree about silver, as medals in this era would be hallmarked or stamped at least “SILVER” on the edge or reverse. I think silvered bronze is the best fit until tested

Hi Kenny,

Whilst that was often the case, it's not universally true. A reasonable number of the silver medals for both Edward VIII and George VI were not marked in any way.

I don't mind if it is listed as silver or silvered bronze as we don't have a definitive answer either way.

Cheers

Simon
