With respect Ben, I think Werner is referring to the fact that the 1984 issue is listed on Numista as being "without signature". I will check my Hern's when I get a chance but in the meantime perhaps Werner could upload some pictures of his coin :)
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Thanks, I did think that I was walking into an error on my part: thanks, Rick.

OK, I've just checked my Hern's Handbook for SA coins and this is a summary of what it says:
The Republic of South Africa 2nd decimal series 20 cents had the same reverse all the way from 1965 to 1990. It was designed by Tommy Sasseen and has the initials "T.S." at the lower right below the Protea flower design. However, the obverse design was changed a number of times during this period, including commemoratives of former presidents in 1976, 1979 and 1982. In 1983 the obverse design reverted to Tommy Sasseen's version of the national arms with his intials to the lower right below one of the supporters. In 1984 the arms were slightly modified, with a design produced by Arthur Sutherland, but this time there were no initials included. It wasn't until 1985 when the engraver was recognised with another slight modification showing the initials "ALS" to the lower left.
Werner, can you check your coin again and verify whether the initials you saw were on the obverse or the reverse. If it is the latter then that is perfectly normal but if it is the former then I would suggest you have a great rarity (if genuine) and we would love to see pictures

Hey Werner, great pics by the way, good resolution. It looks like a perfectly normal, if slightly worn, KM#86 to me with no initials on the obverse and "T.S." on the reverse. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your collecting
