Measurements deviations in 5 pesetas

Hi,

Got this cleaned 5 pesetas coin from 1870

weight 23,55g

thickness 2,7mm

Water testing inconclusive, sometimes it's close to silver, other times it's nickel-copper. I'm getting 8.66 g/cm^3. Used this test https://en.numista.com/numisdoc/determining-the-metal-of-a-coin-27.html 

ice test. melted ice quickly, got cold fast

magnet test. doesn't stick.

ping test. resonates nicely, sounds like a silver coin.

attaching images of the coin, which matches harrytang positions of the edge lettering.

Thoughts? In my opinion, weight deviation is quite significant since it's not a very worn-down coin. Tested scales with a known coin, it showed 6,26 grams on a 0.900 silver quarter, and calipher was 0,1 mm off

Yes, the weight deviation is too much. Even if your coin was very worn, roughly 0.5 g could be acceptable. But 1,45 g, nope…

Anyway, I would try weighing it on another precision scale and comparing the results.

Overlayed my coin onto the Numistas image and we see some major issues straight away, mainly the star position/size but also the date is not correctly positioned…

Yes, looks very similar, 70 angle in the star and star position itself is what distincts these as counterfeits apart from measurements. Reverse matches the original completely. Mine had 4 staples in the white holder
