Citação: "Goutham Sivasailam"This is a shocker, but I am 5 months away from being 11. But my dad helps me and he is 52.Welcome to Numista (and your father, too)! I think you're starting on what will be a life-long obsession.
Just 76 since May. Coins keep you young😄
45 - I will be 46 in November.
Makes me feel old though.
Aidan.
I'm 17, and I properly started at the age of 11. Am shocked to see some collectors even younger than me because it's such an uncommon hobby for teenagers especially where I live…
Glad to see all these young people on here. I'm coming in at only 75
just shy of 53
Hello
Nearly 48 for me
Very sexy 69 😇
Almost 15.
Somewhere between 50 and death.😉
BTW a poll like this on another coin forum gave a median age in the mid-50s.
I think there are more young collectors here.

Maybe Numista should do a poll about it sometime because I think the median age would be in the late teens to mid twenties.
cmacleanI'm 19 and I started collecting coins when I was 12.
I'm 26 now. Time flies.
I'm 33 now. Started collecting when i was 13-14 and more or less “inherited” a box of coins, few breaks in collecting since then. Got more in the hobby when I finished my studies and joined numista. ;)

Back on Page 1, after about the first 50 replies, someone calculated the median to be 29.
That was in 2013, so the median of that group is now 38.
I would not be surprised if we have a bimodal age distribution. Young collectors are more likely to post because of enthusiasm. Old ones because of having free time on their hands. Those between have busy lives growing careers, raising kids, etc.
If in the profile you had the birthdate, it would all be easy, wouldn't it? (Only if filled in truthfully, of course)
im 27 about to be 28 in August

A time waster - sounds like a corrupt politician that deserves to be driven out - like St. Patrick was said to have driven out all the snakes from the isle of Ireland!
Aidan.
I come from China. I'm 17 years old
Reached 30 yesterday.
going towards 7 x 11, so it's not a prime number this time! 79 will be the next of my goals, then 81 followed by 83…. and so on!
Guess what,
Today is my 15th birthday, but, I have to study for Tomorrow's Psychology Exam
But, I have to
So, My age is 15 years

You‘re not alone in studying, albeit my exam is in January. I’m currently studying level 3 year 1 business foundation national diploma in business course and have been attending college for business since September 2020.

Thanks + for the cake too🤤
All the Best👍👍👍
Right now I'm 12 but in December I'll be 13.
wow so many more younger ones here than I thought well then me being 16 now doesn't make me feel disconnected from others here lol
I think that although you don't have as much expirence, being younger can be better. I find that when buying things I can often knock people down on their prices.

I agree it does happen to me but I’m 18 now so it doesn’t happen as much but on some occasions they do discounts and in one case a freebie.

That’s what I thought as well when I joined. Although in real life whenever I go to shops or attend shows most people are at least 30 years old than me on average, although occasionally I’ve seen children and people in their 20s at shows but not many around my age. But that could be due to me living in a fairly rural area where most people are on the older side.

I can often get discounts and in the coins shop/coin auction house in my town he gives me half off on foreign coins (not like expensive ones though) Also my first time buying there I got a free coin. I remember once at a coin show I got around 20 foreign bills for $10
I hope I can have as many coins as you by the time I'm 18, although I have more now than I've entered in Numista. Mainly for me now the barrier is not being able to work in the school year because then I only have the money from the summer.

I once got a non rusted steel 1943 penny from a shop in south Dakota called Dakota coin when I went there on vacation once the guy there gave it for free since I still needed the type which was very kind nothing much but still nice

Same here I don’t really have much disposable income so most of my finds are within a budget of £10-£50 on average although one time I did spend £150 odd on some Silver coins not too long ago.
Also most of my collection is duplicate coins (mostly 1967 pennies and modern ones ready for swap) and fortunately nearly 50% of my collection is from either given from parents or found in circulation in the U.K. and holiday change.😎

Nice.👍 For me it’s been things from Silver three pence pieces (from a dealer at an antiques show) to a 2002 Isle of Man 10p (given by a friend).

I can spend around 20$ or so at each buying. Occasionally I will spend more though. I've received quite a lot of coins from my Grandpa who collected (not so much now) and some that were my Great Grandpa's including a british penny collection from 1877 to 1967 with some gaps. Other than that I get a lot of my coins from the local coin auction because I like older coins which can't be found in circulation.
I started collecting coins around 12 to 14. Sadly, I have actually forgotten how old I was (but it was many, many years ago). I remember I had a paper route & started collecting b/c I had a lot of change (so it was a no-brainer). This was AFTER Canada switched from silver to nickel coinage. Oddly enough, I rarely snagged a silver coin. Every coins that passed through my hands was darn NICKEL! My brother, 4 years my senior, received all my grandpa's coins & had loads of silver. He had an awesome collection which dwarfed mine filled with mostly silver kings & queens I had never heard of. For that reason, I decided to switch my focus on banknotes. I could never compete with him. It was a pretty ambitious collector's goal but I soon realized that nobody collected banknotes until my mother took me to see her cousin. Her cousin's husband (in his 60's at the time) actually had a CDN banknote collection, & I was absolutely mesmerized. We were distant relatives & I knew I'd never see those notes again.
This $5.00 Dominion of Canada note was legendary back then (& to this day). Everyone knew about it (even a young whipper-snapper like me) at the time this distant cousin showed it off. I remember when he showed me that huge $5 like it was yesterday. I knew it was the last time I'd see one & vowed that I would own a DOC P-31 “horse blanket” some day. I still haven't acquired that $5 but it is a worthy goal.
It's great you guys (WWC, Abecoin, silvergeek, etc) are so young & I wish I was your age again. I hope you guys "stay connected." I also hope you guys welcome women & girls who might be interested in our hobby. Too many times I have seen collectors like they're experts (to attract the fairer sex) but know the show-off routine is a huge turn off to most lady collectors. When I started there were only a few coin dealers who sold notes (all men). Twenty years later, there was one or two ladies I saw as dealers & very few women about the bourses. I'm really glad it has finally changed as I have met some great collectors (of the opposite gender) & I do hope more younger girls become interested as well. This was in 2019 before the pandemic.
It is much healthier for the hobby to embrace diversity than just to have mostly men (&/or boys) or one gender. You young collectors are the future of our hobby so I hope you encourage your female counterparts & if you made buddies in your age-range to stick together!
