The coin on the page you mentioned is dated 1995, and I also attach an image of one I have which is 1993 dated two years earlier. I put wording onto my picture to show how it is worked out (took me a while to learn it all) - the trickiest part is the dates. The counting of years is not like 2011 is for a lot of the world but is the number of year's reign of the current emperor. The coins show Akihito which starts at 1989 and as there is no year 0 they start at 1 making 1990 year 2 etc.
So 1991 is 3 then 1992 is 4 and 1993 is 5 which mathematically makes it easier to take 1 off the start year then just add the numbers to that i.e. 1989 minus 1 is 1988 then add 5 shown on my coin makes 1993 year. Then your link shows a coin with a 7 after it so that is 1995 year.
Have I written too much  ?!   :Zz:    Hope it helps anyway   :)   P.S. I see we are both Zak/Zac !!
