Wow, Hejaz, Manchukuo, Liege, all still on my wishlist to get a tiny bit closer to Imre's country count.
Not exactly a new country but I did manage to get my first coin from the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte.

It's a rather humble 1815 Decime in VG condition. I reckon our French counterparts have dozens of them but for me this was a very hard to find piece.

I'm guessing that the 1815 coins were rather hastily minted during The Hundred Days?

East Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, and Portugal are my newest. Got my first coin from each on the 5th.
I am trying to have at least 1 coin for each country/region.

My dashboard shows 282 countries from the 395 as Numista shows, but this includes so many extincted countries, and others that divided or merged that I decided to set a target: looked Krause catalog 2001-date and found they list 209 countries/regions as having created coins in this century.

So far, I have 199 of them, and I'm waiting to receive the last bought on eBay to complete 200;  :8D  Yay!! only 9 missing, and they will be very hard to get (scarce or expensive)  8.

What I'm missing are: Alderney, Benin, Ivory Coast, Liechtenstein, Nauru, Palau, Shawnee Tribal Nation, South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands (waiting to receive it), Stoltenhoff Island and Togo.

Last I got was a series of Tokelau Islands 2012:

Double update!

Yesterday it was Bhutan, 25 chhertum:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5718.html

But today I found something more interesting, a coin from the Basque Country!
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces11801.html

OK, OK, it's listed under "Spain - Civil War", but if Tatarstan gets a Numista listing couldn't the Basques get one too? Anyway, I don't have any other Spanish Civil War coins either so it still stands.
My last additions are:

South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, I finally received it:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces27947.html, but is year 2012, which is still not listed on page.

Last Saturday I bought 2 more:
Benin:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21777.html
and Togo:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces11252.html

Now I'm only missing 7 countries of those that issued coins during this century (as listed on Krause Catalog). As Numista say I have 282 countries so far; and most of the missing as Numista shows are exctincted countries, dependences or regions.

For my target to collect all "present" countries Missing countries are: Ivory Coast, Liechstenstein, Nauru and Palau; dependences are: Alderney, Shawnee Tribal Nation and Stoltenhoff Island (last one I already have located a guy selling coins from there).

Don't want to spoil anything here, but in my opinion the Ruanda-Urundi coins are basically Belgian Congolese coins where this extra mandate territory which is now Rwanda & Burundi are mentioned on those coins. Belgium already administered Ruanda-Urundi from after WW1 when Germany was forced to give up German East Africa.

These 'Ruanda-Urundi' coins circulated all over Congo, including Rwanda & Burundi, just like the older Congolese coins did.

In my collection I've labeled them as Belgian Congo & Ruanda-Urundi.
My newest country is Mombasa. Sadly the coin has been clean but it was cheap and it will serve its purpose as a space filler until a better one can be obtained.

Nice coins nalaberong!

And I do agree with you that West Irian is a separate country. Its currency was a different Rupiah than the Indonesian one.

Frenchlover, I meant that Biafra & Katanga are separate listings in the Numista catalog's country list, and hence I am of the opinion that West Irian should get that status as well.

Let us analyze on a historical point of view. On 1962, (great year, when John glenn was the first american to go to space the 20th feb - sorry it's my birthday) the president of indonesia wa Sukarno depicted on Barat Iran coins.

Not at all the same historical context as the Biafra civil war (1967-1970) or the secession of Katanga between 1960 and 1963 !

Distinct currency used in a separate territory. To me that's a separate place. Perhaps not a country as sovereign entity, but a separate currency authority it definitely is.
