Hey. I am look for some help with these two coins. One I located which is the 1876, the other is unknown to me. I also need to know if anybody knows about what these coins are pressed into, and if anybody knows a way to remove the coin from this type of holder? Both coins appear to be in AU to UNC condition and the 1876 appears to have some nice value in this condition.

I don't beleve they are authentic coins embedded in holders. I think they are medals, intended for prizegiving at athletic events or such. the large blank reverse area for engraving the award given
like this one - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces17126.html
the design of the second one looks like this pattern piece - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces83703.html

also, I think they are of modern manufacture.

I agree with Mr. Midnight

Fantasies are also a possibility as well.

Could you clarify which reverse is related to which obverse?
Yes seems like a fantasy, the side with the bust definitely was a pattern design only created in 1913 and did not exist in 1876

Is there anything on the edge of the medals? Sometimes silver companies copy coin designs for their one ounce silver rounds.

Can you give us size and weight for them?
They both weigh 20 grams, have no idea for sure if there is anything on the reverse or obverse of these possible coins, The piece of paper in the holders say Cairo Palace Collection, one from the Hamburg Mint and other says the Prussian Mint. There are in a small blue folder from Bradshaw and Darlington of England. Couldn't find out too much about this company. I am tempted to try and cut one of the coins out, without damaging it.

If they are actually a coin pressed into a holder I'm sure the reverse of each is going to be FUBAR

Matt
Don't be too quick to destroy them. If they came from the Cairo Palace Collection you need to search in this direction; https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/009052703

Hope this helps.
Beekeeper Thank you very much for that information, I have been trying to think of a way to get those coins out of those holders, I have a bang ring for magic coins that I tried, but they are pressed in those holders very tight.
The coins appear in AU condition. It would be nice to be able to get them out so I could see how the other side of the coins are. The holders are silver, I wonder if there is any value to these coins the way they are?
David Arbuckle
I am not convinced that you can remove the "coins" from their holders. You may find that these are uniface replicas of some of the rare coins of the Cairo Palace Collection, and the entire medal was struck as one piece.
That is always possible, one must ask oneself, does one take the risk to find out? Value or knowledge? What is more important, they may not be worth much, be sure, they will be worth much less if damaged while making the attempt to identify a Numismatic Value?
David Arbuckle
let's be clear, the coin in the medal is not one of these
