Rarer coins, give me ideas!

I was thinking of buying coins not on Numista, owned by only a few people or somehow weird.

"Rarer coins" means either actually rare coins or NRI rare coins. For example:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces132188.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces146114.html

let's say...1200-1900.
Many of the German states coins got a very high NRI. And you should find quite some of them on ebay. If you got some lucky auctions you also can get them very cheap there.
As you may already know plate and siege coins often are rare and special coins.
Those giant Russian copper roubles ( https://www.ebay.ie/itm/RUSSIAN-Rare-auction-of-coin-from-Russia-Sestroreck-rouble-1771-/361057771975 ) definitely look very special too and also should be quite rare (but expensive!!).

Edit: Just noticed you posted all this already in another thread :D

If I won the lottery, I would buy the Sestroreck rouble (NRI 100) I own a 4 daler plate, its larger but more common. NRI 95.

The price is a problem. Many of the most interesting coins cost a fortune.
Other ones I am interested in are coins from smaller places. For example the Gotland and Turku coins. Cheapest ones are worth 60-200€, so they aren't cheap either.
The largest silver coin from that age (~1300-1900) is the Afghanistan 45 gram silver 5 rupee coin.

The vietnamese silver ingots aren't worth so much (~200€). But of course, its not the size of an ingot (5g) and all the ebay sellers seem suspicious as the exact same picture is on 5 items..
I think that if you go through european coinage between 1200 et 1700, basically 80% of the coins must be NRI 90 or higher or even not on numista.
(I apologize because i will be posting coins relative to my areas of collection).

A few I got for instance :
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces94853.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces137952.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces121701.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces144077.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces37355.html

Most of them are quite cheap regarding their (relative) scarcity.

Talking about weird coins, you have of course siege coins. These are mostly expensive... But there is a great variety of them. For instance :

I have also also this coin if you're interested <:D

I previously had this, whos value is around 35$.

You have also plenty of austrian medieval states pfennig that are really cheap despite their scarcity (huge number of it of what I know).

That is true. I added that 1/2 kreuzer from Regensburg (first post), even though its not that rare. I own one siege coin: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces127305.html
I love Regensburg coins, but weirdly they often cost more.
I could buy coins from medieval Austrian states, thats a good idea. I dont own many medieval coins.

Regensburg coins include:
1 Heller from 1677 to 1804
1 Pfennig from 1508 to 1797
1/2 Kreuzer 1659-1666
1 Kreuzer 1623-1781
2 Kreuzer 1668- 1754
1/32 ducat 1750, 1773 ~ 150€
1 Thaler ~ 200€
Other ones cost a LOT
Still asking for ideas
Building on what Choucas said already (about most European coins pre-18th century having a high NRI), maybe try French Feudal coins?

They're an interesting alternative to France - Kingdom coins that tend to be scarcer in general, depending on issuer (some, like Dombes, that I just did a WCC on, have most of their coins above 80 NRI).

Thats a good idea. I actually have one on my wish list: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces56248.html

Well, let me invite you to look through Bohemia catalogue. <:D

If you are aiming at quite expensive coins, look for "Counts of" sections. Coins there are exquisite, but costs a fortune.
  1. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/lobkowicz_counts-1.html
  2. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/rosenbergs-1.html
  3. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/schlick_counts-1.html
  4. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/eggenberg_counts-1.html

If you want some Numista rare, but otherwise quite cheap coins, look for the coinage of cities - Jihlava, Brno, Znojmo from Bohemia and others from Silesia.

If you want to create some sort of collection, look for Olmutz bishopric, its coins were produced in larger quatities than king's own in some times.

If you want some more costly collections, look for Silesian duchies. They often produced a lot of denominations with same design, so that makes them nice target. Although, high denominations are often very expensive, especially the gold ones.

Let me know if you fancy anything, I could try to look for it in czech internet shops.

Hmmmm. If I had the money and wanted to collect what I would consider "rare", I'd collect mules. It would not matter the era or country of origin, the coin would just have to be a prime example of a mule.

I know that in Australia we have a mule. It's the 2000 1 dollar coin. It was in production for almost the whole year till someone noticed that the side with the Queen's portrait was actually for the 10 cent coin (It's fractionally smaller in diameter).

Now rare and very expensive, I'm sure other countries have had their own mules each with their own story, and so I would collect mules.
Collector of Third Reich coins (1933 - 1946), and Australian coins.
Not swapping at this time.
Yes, mules for me too - I only have three so far ...

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

1200-1900.
Mules from these times are very rare, usually.
I have decided to possibly buy (Not now, later, maybe next year):

Gotland penny, maybe https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces146918.html
Old Georgian coins https://en.numista.com/catalogue/georgia_section-1.html#c_georgie4222
A old ottoman gold coin,
"Cloud kopek" https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces101690.html ,
,
and a Turku Örtug https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces91955.html
I would recommend to look for thalers - Habsburg dinasty, or transilvania pricipality, most of them are rare, and it is also good investment. But they are quite expensive, depends what is your budget.
