Counterfeit 1 RM

8 publicações
I have a counterfeit 1907 F 1 Reichsmark. The Michel 2011 Münzen Deutschland mentions a 1905 F. Can't seem to find any information on either. The coin doesn't "ring" like silver but sure looks like a good period fake. Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Mike
What help do you require? Another silver test? There are many threads in this forum about testing for silver. use the search luke, etc.

It is very easy to believe you have a counterfeit. Such a period counterfeit is certainly 'collectable'. There is a market for them. I don't know about that coin, specifically, but in some cases, the well known fake is well sought after. I would keep it, but if you hate it, you can sell it, as what it is, in good faith.

I don't have a way of photographing the coin. The best I could do is scan it. I could find no way to enlarge and copy the images. I was able to enlarge them in Paint but could not save the enlargements. I have limited knowledge with this computer "stuff". I would like to find out about this forgery complex. If Michel mentions the 1905 forgery there must be more information documenting its existence. A similar scenario should exist (I hope) for the 1907.

Thanks,
Mike
That worked reasonably well. There is usually a way to 'preview' the image on the scanner bed, and select just the area you want scanned. I just 'cropped' all the white area off your images.

I have not been able to find any information on counterfeit marks but perhaps someone will yet.

I'm not interested in a silver test there are many available options. The "ring" test tells me enough. What I'm interested in is the forgery complex itself. Michel mentions a 1905 forgey. So, there must be documentation on this forgery complex. If this is the case there should be (I hope) documentation on the 1907. In either case the forgeries are much more scarce than the real item! Also, do you know of any specific reference book on the 1 mark (Kaiserreich) series?

Thanks,
Mike

Wow, Thanks!!! I'm hopeful that someone will have an answer. Must be a fascinating story!

Just for reference, here is the real coin:

Check dimensions and details; especially try and find out what metal it is? Back in the 19th and early 20th centuries contemporary forgeries were usually made out of lead, coated with silver that has usually worn off over the years.
