Hello, I have been seaching for this coin in the catalogue, but I cannot find it.
There is plenty of information online about this coin, suggesting that it comes from Belgium, dated 1987, with a total weight of 17.28 g and a net gold weight of 15.55 g, with a nominal value of 50 ECU.
It seems a quite common investment coin.
Why is it missing here?
Why does it say Écu in the title? ECU or European Currency Unit has absolutely nothing to do with the old écu coins at most the name is an allusion to them.
Thank you!
I just noticed that the exonumia section is a bit tricky to browse since the user loses the "country" as a filter and description format differs among the coins.
I read that it is an official Belgian issue to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, minted by the Royal Mint of Belguim. I think they should stay under the coins section at par with the Soviet "Chervonets, the "Scudi" coins in San Marino, the Krugerrand itself or the modern gold ounces and relevant decimals, even the British sovereign itself post decimalization.
Regaring écu or ecu, there is no accent on the flip side of the coin itself, so I don't see any reason to include that.
