Citação: neilithicNice, Falkland Island would be an interesting country to collect
Yeah, maybe I start a collection of just Falkland Islands coins! That would cheer my collection up!  :)

1980, 1980, 1983 Respectively. Cool question...I'm just sorry it is not in picture format!
I picked up a nice XF Katanga 1 Franc coin for $2 delivered.

 Hahahahaha

Its crazy that Falklands are not worth more with such small mintage, perhaps we should make a deal to buy them all up and keep them. The price would soar but we wouldn't sell.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

Yup, it's the same with the Fiji coins. Small population = small mintages I guess.

Hungary 10 Fillér 1950 "Magyar Állami Váltópénz" Aluminium
It's listed at rarity 97 now
Yeah, of course, it means that one collector (me) has it.

Citação: neilithicand there's a link to one that's listed at 99p
I saw that, the seller had it as fixed price for US $199.00 and now he changed it to auction. Let's follow that.

...edit:
Winning bid US$ 67.00

My most bargain find would without contest be a coin I've posted about before on the forums. The Maldives 10 Laari 1960 in aluminium rather than the usual Nickel-brass.
I got this as one coin a the huge lot that I also have posted about. I've really no idea of its value, but I've been offered about 3/4 the price of the entire lot that it was in.

My most favourite bargain however is a very nicely toned 1893 Columbian half dollar I got for about $9.

Ah, I've been trying to get one of those.  One guy I know was selling one in about a vg-f condition and wanted NZ$26 for it.  I contacted them and told them the price was too high because even in VF if only catalogues at about $20.  So he dropped the price to $23.....Not going to happen!!
I saw an ad on a local classified site and replied. It was a widow who was selling her late husband's collection. It contained all mint condition Royal Canadian Mint sets (mostly silver). I  asked her how much she wanted for the entire collection. She asked me to make her an offer. I gave her $800.00 and she was very happy.  The next day, I sold the entire collection to a coin dealer for $7500.00 cash.
I have felt guilty about this for some time so yesterday, I tried to contact her to apologize for taking advantage of her. I could not refund her any money because that is long gone. However, I learned that she recently died.
Whats the Numista link to the 1893 Columbian half dollar?

Just arrived in tonight's mail.

Three silver Carl Gustav Solidus c.a. 1655, two are really nice the third is a bit crappy but who can complain for $5.61 for all three?

Phil, that's an absolute steal :8D Looks like there was some canny watching and bidding going on there ;)

Yean, I've changed my buying strategy and it's really paying off. I've abandoned the bidding at the last minute approach in favour of placing bids during the last 48 hours at what I consider to be the maximum. 90% of the bids get shot down especially in a final minutes so it can be frustrating but the few that do slip through tend to be stellar buys.

It takes a bit of patience and discipline, neither of which I was abundantly blessed with and of course it doesn't work with popular series like US/UK silver. I also got a pair of UNC South Africa 50 cents, 1963 & 1964 for $11 each, free shipping..... not too shabby considering each one has around $18 worth of silver.

I decided I would collect coins other than silver if I get some in bulk lots but not actively seek them out, so I went back over a cheap kilo of coins that I got for my kids to play with and found one of these that I hadn't looked at before because they weren't silver

1971 issue, mintage 10,000
Today I stopped by the local bank and they were holding one of these for me and I paid 50 cents!

Mine was a 2001... I can't believe anyone would pay with it!

Just a quick line to say congratulations to neilithic for a truly long-running thread - last count was 216 posts, I think! You have obviously inspired many members to open up and share :)

Thanks a lot, I see someone mentioned it was a pity it wasn't a pictorial thread, perhaps we should set up another where people can post pictures of their finds.

Got a kilo of coins from the guy I buy them off, he said that he couldn't see anything worthwhile so gave it to me for $10 rather than $30 like normal.  It had a 1943 silver nickel from the States, a Netherland Indies 1/10 guilden, a 1941 South African 3d, a 1951 South African 6d, a 1935 UK 3d (not the Maundy coinage) and a 1864 Victorian shilling. And that was just the silver coins in the batch. There was also a low mintage 1915 Australian halfpenny, an Indian head penny from the States, and many other little finds.
Returned for another stab...they had a small stack of 5 Russian mint sets and asked for $5 each. I glanced at the catalog and thought perhaps the decimal point was in the wrong place:

1975 x 2 @$500.00
1976 x 2 @$600.00
1977 @ $40

Needless to say I paid the $25 for the 5 sets. Ebay does show them selling far below catalog, in the $90-100 range. Still a nice find....reportedly they couldn't give them away a few years ago, but recently Russian collectors are driving the prices up. So do I save them hoping the price goes even higher? Or dump them for a quick return? I presume they will always be worth more than I paid for them...
If you really like them, then keep them.  Otherwise I would sell them off and buy something that you really like.
Thanks...I'll consider your advice.

Just won x2 Sierra Leone company coins !

£17 it's high compared to what NGC say but they are so scarce they are a bargain; I got the penny and the cent which is in better condition than the one I entered into the MPCC, so my original will be up for swap !

The penny has a lot of rim bumps but I can live with it ! It's really good since I was bidding on a one penny in worse condition than my own cent, and it went for £12 ! Strange that you never see them then two are on at once !

I am interested in that coin. Let me know when you want to swap and hopefully we can make a trade.
I got a lot of Massa (Ceylon) coins at Rs. 100 each (lessre than 1$) yeaterday. Normal market rate for a such coin for local dealers about 2$ each. There were about 1000 coins. I had only Rs 1600 and try to get few good condition coins and Found Darmashoka massa - Scare coin and feel like no one check the lot. So I check the full lot and found Codaganga massa coin and 10 Darmashoka coins. Normal market price for Codaganga is over 500 - 1000 $ and other one is about 5-6 $.

This is Codaganga one massa. Verry rare. Only difference is the letters on the right side. Majority of the sellers donot know to read the letters.
