Mintages were never high after 1971 with an average of 20 - 50 million a year compared to 500 million - 1 billion for quarters. But after 2002 it drops to like 4 or 5 million per year and that is pretty much all set coins.
I think its the same with the $50 note, you don't see many. I noticed a lot of gambling videos, when they are paid out its always $100s and $20s.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Actually, three of the banks here (Philadelphia area) now give only 50s in their ATMs. I've had some interesting conversations with cashiers at certain stores who think they're fake.

I've heard that casino's don't pay out in 50s because some people think it's bad luck.
However, I think being superstitious is bad luck in and of itself.
