Hi All,
Just wondering if I am seeing this right.
In the attached picture, the 2nd coin from the top has a smaller head size compared to the other 3.
At the widest - nose to back of head the large head is 18mm & the small head is 15mm.
small head mint year - 1930 & 1935.
Has anyone identified this or seen this.
regards
Just found this.
Explains about the reduced head size.

Reverse photos and the other dates of the coins you are comparing would be helpful. Which types are you referring to? This link should be the smaller portrait coin and date you are asking about.

Thanks harryg.
In my earlier post, I have 3 other coins for comparison.
From the website -
The head was modified in 1926 and some small changes were made to the
reverse.

During 1928-1936 the size of George V head was reduced. These pennies
are sometimes called the small head obverse.
King George V 1 penny coins were issued right up to 1936, the Numista catalogue has dates upto 1926.
Can the other dates be added.

Hi radrick007,
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
That was very helpful.

I was aware of the reduced head size on later pennies, but can someone point out the differences between the normal and modified effigy? I can’t seem to spot any.
The effigy change is not so easy to see, especially on worn coins -
and the BM initials on the portrait move slightly. More easier to
see with movement of the lettering and : around the portrait.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
For the : colon it is >
normal = BRITT : OMN [in middle]
modified = BRITT: OMN [closer to T]

 Similarly >
normal = FID : DEF [in middle]
modified = FID: DEF [closer to D]

Hi Zac,
That animation is very cool.
From the link you posted for the coins on Numista - I think in the modified effigy KGV's nose/face is like sniffing the morning air position.
