Hello everyone,

I have a 1862 'Queen Victoria' One Rupee coin from the Indian British era. It is a silver coin and weighs around 10-12 grams. Can someone help me with finding its valuation and tell me how I could sell it? Also attaching some images of the coin

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

you see there are some varieties of this coin, some are more valuable than others.
there is a reference on the numista page to help you determine which it is.
here is a price guide

I think the grade is VF, but it might be better than that.

Mr. Midnight, this is incredible info...u sound like a pro at coins. The value table is however a bit confusing. Would you be able to tell me how much this is worth?
I did crop your pictures, they are good enough to compare to the references.

Obverse looks like type A to me

Reverse is more complicated.
A more experienced person than I could tell you which variety you have.
When you know that, you can start to find the value.

edit to add: I have just finished read Campell's pages, and I think this is Type A/II 0/4
which is the second entry in the NGC table. Reading across to VF we see US$50.
That is a first indication only. You can look at auctions to discover what sales have realized.

"Book" values such as those listed on NGC or in Krause catalogs are on the high side, and rarely obtained by sellers. I know that in India 10-20 years ago coins like this were selling for slightly above melt value, but I'm sure local prices have risen in recent years. Here's a listing of some Indian Victoria 1862 silver rupees that sold recently on EBay in the U.S.:

I know, I hate to think of all the beautiful coins that have been melted down over the centuries. :~

There used to be an EBay India site where people sold coins, but I think it is no longer in existence. If there's a similar site it might give an idea of local prices for coins.
Wow, great insights Mr. Midnight and Seeker55...thanks you so much!

I have many such coins ranging from 1862 to 1919 which are in excellent condition and were given to me by my grandfather. Looking at the values, I think it will be best to just keep them with me as souvenirs!

What do you guys think?
There's certainly nothing wrong with keeping and enjoying your coins, especially if they have some sentimental value from your grandfather. In general coins tend to gain value over time, and selling them often requires significant time and discounts.
