The other day we passed a fishmonger who offered fresh pike - 4 kg Northern pike (Esox lucius). After working on the fish for two days (it has a lot of bones), there are now six two-portion packs in the freezer. Today we had pike soup with diced potato and carrot, pieces of pike liver and roe balls.
Crab meat from a tin with smoked paprika together with a celeriac root salad and an avocado. I mixed the celeriac with a granny smith apple. Everything was good except the crab, too watery and no taste, although I had let it drip off for 24 hours.

I love crab meat. Generally not a big fan of tinned stuff. But some brands are so good - can't tell the difference.
Maybe try a different brand. Hope the taste gets better!
Fillet of sea bass on a bed of fennel. The fennel caramelized during 3 hours in ½ butter and ½ olive oil at very low heat.
Hello and I wish you health.
I wouldn't even eat a wolf on a bass🤣however, I was very, very interested in the gastronomic service - the flower plate. This beautiful plate reminded me of my childhood when I spent holidays at my grandmother's in the countryside-she also had variously shaped porcelain and painted plates.
they are German plates for every day's use, so you might very well have had some…
We have quite a few hand painted plates with different roosters, as well!
Regards.
Yes, it's probably Germany - my uncle used to bring gifts to my grandmother in the 1950s when he worked in Germany-so this pottery probably came with them.
At home, I mainly use our classic ,,Míšen,,onion pottery - The theme of the onion decor was adopted in Meissen between 1738-1739 from the original Chinese designs:
However, outside in the old barn, besides a large number of containers, I also have large hand-painted large plates hanging - only they are covered with cobwebs and stuck in dust - just to show people's creativity:
Just for fun and a demonstration of our creativity with regard to gastronomy.
I promise that in the summer I will wash all the ceramics and preserve the metal antiques hanging on the walls of barns and cellars😇
After a month of only vegetarian food and no alcohol, we start off April with chimichurri flank steak and roasted potatoes with garlic. And of course it was all served together with a glass of wine. 😋
My wife is having vol a vent with a glass of white wine, and for me meatballs and witloof, with a glass of Trappist ale. Lots of nice fries on each plate (though we had to ask for ketchup).
Hello. I stayed alone with my grandchildren for the evening. So quickly fried for 15 minutes (unhealthy, but the kids love it) with a pirate theme: the ship is an egg omelet + cargo - roast meat (left over from lunch) + vegetables and 2x dip, side dish - ultra thin fries. The topic was praised 😀 what all the pirates stole.
I had homemade pancakes with ham and various berries topped with some maple syrup.

Today tried to do “Arni kleftiko”, which is lamb with potatoes, tomato, peppers and carrots put in a clay pot with slices of cheese. I think it'll be alright. 😄

I've recently started my weight loss journey and decided to try a Keto diet. I should say, Keto has many health benefits. So, today is my first day and I have chicken thighs cooked in olive oil with broccoli and cheese for dinner.
I'll also show you Indian - however, the chicken doesn't have to be from India, but also Pakistani, English or NY. The preparation started yesterday with poultry spices - a mixture from the store, then the chicken is sealed in food foil with a vacuum sealer and put in the fridge overnight.
A while ago, it was chosen, put on a spit, and now it is slowly turning and grilling in the backyard opposite the terrace by the natural well.
You can also set up this portable fire pit and spit on a flashlight in a park or by the water - wherever it is allowed. There will be dip and bread with vegetables - tomatoes, cucumber, etc. Grilled chicken "Indian", I will not take pictures after baking and put them on the web - so that you do not tend to lick the screens of your PC, tablets and mobile phones. So just "preparing for dinner"
rub salt and spices with oil on the skin and inside
freeze in foil for 12 to 24 hours, 12-degree Pilsner beer is suitable for this operation
we put away the refrigerators
on a balcony in NY, London or New Zealand - or in the backyard, who has a barbecue, the herb bed in the stone bed complements the fully fresh spices and that too,, India,,
My dinner yesterday in a restaurant somewhere in Paris.
The starter was fried frogs legs followed by a frog burger with chips and for dessert strawberry soup.

Tell me more about this strawberry soup? It looks like jam…
Hapertas
It's difficult to see from the image, but is this soup liquid or more firm like compôte?
Sadly I didn’t get a photo of the inside of the burger patty but the meat was greyish similar colour to tuna and the texture to oily fish such as mackerel or kipper.
Well the strawberry soup was simiar to compote but had the constancy of cream and flavour wise it was Strawberries (obviously) vanilla and sugar.

The other day we bought two portion meals of yellow pea soup ready for warming in plastic tubes (image from Wikimedia Commons). It's called soup but has a porridge consistence.
Half price since the “best before” expiry date was closing in. Seasoned with a pinch of salt, fried onion and bits of pork. Yummy.
Today, Friday, is meatless day, so we begin with fried herring on rye for breakfast.
The Baltic herring (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_herring#Baltic_herring) is a fish that amongst others is served fried on rye bread as “varm sillmacka” (warm herring open sandwich)- a regional speciality of the Scania province of Sweden (the southernmost peninsula of the Scandinavian peninsula). Normally the regional rye bread called Kavring is used for this dish, but rye bread has become expensive, so we use a generic rye bread baked at the supermarket. On top of the dish are pickled red onions and home made Hovmestersås (Butler's sauce - with two sorts of mustard, dill, rape seed oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and black pepper as ingredients). Prior to frying the herring filets are turned in rye flour to make the filets crispy.
The plate shown in the image has the size of a LP vinyl record.
For dinner - home made, battered brown trout filet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_trout), fresh potatoes with sauce (processed sour milk, mayonnaise, mustard, sugar, salt and leek) and salad (romaine lettuce, tomato, radish leaf, leek and processed sour milk).
Ostrich steak tacos with green beans and sweetcorn topped with salsa verde.

For inspiration, a sample of our homemade Christmas dinner. Traditionally - with only a few changes over the last 100 years. This is the day before yesterday. This year, as always, I did it myself - only my grandson helped me.
The table is set for dinner - there's one extra place for the random asylum seeker, so there's extra.
Aperitif Bianco Martini, on small plates there is a wafer that is eaten with smeared honey as a sign of abundance and happiness, in the soup cape there is a traditional family cabbage soup - soup made from our own fermented cabbage + broth with meat and bones - homemade smoked and homemade sausages, dried mushrooms and 5 potatoes.
Alaskan cod fillets and fillet cubes coated in a mixture and fried in sunflower oil.
The fish is served with a potato salad, which is basically made by the wife and traditionally has the same taste for 40 years - it is with homemade mayonnaise, there is also a mayonnaise-free salad for the grandson on the table.
prawns with spices fried in butter and balls of preserved capers+red caviar
Fried fish with spices in butter and poured with pilsner beer, "Sea bass" - baked in the oven, with fish spices and lightly dusted with plain flour for a better surface - crispy, from the fish sauce is in a small cup on the table.
So just to see what is traditionally served in the Czech Republic - the only difference is that each family has a different concept of dinner - however traditionally fish + potato salad.
Today, on St. Stephen's Day, we are traditionally roasting two ducks - I won't put it here - you would lick your monitors and tablets.

Amazing food you’ve got there MIMAEL, my favourite is the cod fillets and the prawns I bet they must have been popular with the family.
For my family had Christmas dinner on the 24th, our dinner had a marinated turkey with honey streaky bacon Then pigs in blankets, normal sausages, rosemary and garlic masked potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cabbage (from a nearby field), gravy, bread sauce, homemade cranberry sauce.
for dessert it was a mix of homemade chocolate macarons and trifle.

I'll have a GIGA-mega hamburger for dinner today. The pennies will already leave the territory of America and fly to me in the ❤️ heart of Europe. And that's only thanks to one colleague from the heart of 💓 America. And what better way to celebrate than with a superburger. Beef - about 1/2 kilo, but it could have been more (it shrunk), the next kilo. Size up to 30 cm. Compare with the penny next to it. Upon arrival, I will publish and celebrate -the day of cento-picking.
Apologies for giving this thread CPR. A few days ago, I tried horse steak for the first time while in France as I was quite curious about its texture and taste. The horse cooked way quicker than its beef, pork or its venison counterparts. The sauce you see it made from white win and a little dijon mustard seasoned with salt, garlic and herbs of provence.
I found it rather slightly sweet and way more gamey tasting than beef, although I liked it enough that I bought horse sausage as well!

You know i started this back on 21 Sep 2013. Just to see what kinds of food everyone ate. And for some new ideals for me to try. I have made some of the food or variations of them. I had just leftovers tonight. Tomorrow just baked chicken. Hope you all eat well
My wife's pregnant (which is why I'm not that active for the moment) so we eat basically anytving that doesn't smell or has too much flavours. And then, I'd like to add, we used to cook a lot! Now it mostly take out or frozen pizzas, lol. Last week we made a soup. That was the first time we cooked in like a month. 😢

Yeaj, she loves those! We made baked potatoes the other day with skagenröra.
Horse, now there's something I've not had before. (Well, knowingly anyway. There was a whole scandal over here in the UK about a decade ago about supermarkets substituting beef for horse…)
I'm always fond of the chunky veg with meat & spices drowned in a thick gravy (or similar). One of my (rather pretentious when it comes to food) friends lovingly says I have a “peasant palette”.
Chunky soups & stews are a firm favourite, though I can't have cream on them. Beef goulash with bread dumplings is amazing. Or sometimes I'll hollow out a large crusty bread bun & pour the goulash inside if I can't be bothered to make bread dumplings.
They go great with some pierogi as a starter (or a side!).
Mulligatawny soup (I prefer beef to the more common chicken) is delicious winter comfort food. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Batman's favourite soup is mulligatawny so I'm in good company. 😛
Haggis is of course my national dish (Oh look, another spiced meat dish), and I always recommend people give it a try. I can't recall the brand, but one makes a vegetarian version which I think is better than all other packaged haggis (though inferior to a proper meaty one from the butchers).
And if you want simplicity, corned beef or spam, cheese of your preference*, and brown sauce toasted sandwiches. Yummy.
*I like the crumbly cheeses, Wensleydale, Lancashire, Cheshire etc.
Yes, congratulations and good luck with the next few weeks/months !!!
Let us all know when he/she is born so we can all ‘wet the baby’s head' (a strange English custom and phrase that refers to having a drink to celebrate the birth of a child, for all those who have never come across that phase before).

Cheers, mate!
We had a ultrasound yesterday, and there were a lot of movement, and it's all very exciting. 😁 (I promise this won't turn out to a baby thread! 😅). The date is set on October 28 (±2 weeks) so it's still early.
I'd lile that, and I will absolutely introduce the new numismatic to you all (it can be whomever it wants, and do and love whatever it wants, but it will be a coin collector! 🤣🤣)
Yes ngdawa congratulations on your news. Once you can sleep all-night. you both well be ok. My baby Lilly bug, Granddaughter is 24 now. Enjoy your time. It goes fast.

How was the texture? I have always wanted to try horse. People in my area would be more angry if you ate a horse than a human!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Similar to slightly overcooked beef steak in terms of chewiness and quite fibrous to be honest. I wouldn't eat it very often though as it's quite filling and the gaminess can be overpowering at times. Although I'm happy to have found a UK-based online meat seller that offers horse to order, so I've got a package coming soon with some horse burgers, steaks, and even zebra meat!
I understand the controversy around horse consumption, even in France its rare as I've only seen it in one or two butchers and the sausage in one supermarket however I've heard it's still widely eaten in Central Asian and some parts of Central/Eastern Europe.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
I find no controversy over eating horse, they’re not any more special than cows…
They are not people!
I ate horse when I were in Mongolia 2008. Delicious! 😋
The “problem” with eating horse in western countries, or why there has been such a controversy when it has aooeared horse meat in other foods, in because of the antibiotics that can be foubd in horses not meant for food. In general it's not more weird than to eat moose or rabbit.
People now adays have too much time on their hands, so all they do is watching and commenting what other people do. It's just sad.
Actually you are incorrect there. People in the USA view horses and other pets at part of the family. I know y’all would never act like this in Europe but here they think horses are more important the humans.

I think that grouping “western countries” together when it comes to food taboos does not make sense.
In the U.S., there are taboos about eating animals like deer, rabbit and horse because they are popular characters in children's books and movies (yes, it really is true). On the other hand, it is commoon to find alligator on restaurant menus in Louisiana, and elk on menus in Wyoming because those animals are relatively abundant in those places, and there are no taboos for the other reason I mentioned.
The vast majority of Americans don't care about the possibility of antibiotics in their food. Buying decision is largely a matter of economics, with a small minority (below 5%) also adhereing to religious rules.
In our house this week we have made dinners based on
- roast chicken
- bratwurst (pork sausage with spices very popular in central U.S. where many German immigrants arrived in 18-19th c.)
I know y’all would never act like this in Europe but here they think horses are more important the humans.
Yeah, well I don't think the standards of the US is something to take after, is it? It must be one of the most divided countries ever, but too blind and proud tonadmit it.
All life should be respected and celebrated, not put in categories after race, sexual orientation, gender, age, income, religion, hotness 1-10, etc.
Animals are, too, to always be respected, regardless what animal it is. To say “X is more important than Y” is to me extremely weird. I, personally, cannot make that general decision. But if would be, let's say, a house fire, I always put a human life before an animal.
I'm sorry, but how did this thread get political? Lol, probably my fault. Sorry!
To get back on track; Today I had a Red Curry with chicken take out. 😊
In most cases it comes down to whether the animal in question has been a pet or not. In the old days animals mostly had to be productive, i.e. contribute to the household. Cats kept the numbers of rodents down, dogs were used for hunting and guarding property, horses and donkeys were excellent for transport. The rest of the animals were bred and eaten. When times were tough, even the pet animals were eaten.
You don't think people in the US eat deer or rabbits? Of course they do. Horse eating is frowned upon though.
I am saying I personally know MANY people who do not eat either for the reason I mention.
And that this reason does not exist in other “western” cultures who did not grow up on Walt Disney.
I don't eat either also. I have never hunted for food or sport. I have never even fired a real riffle. But, many do in the US. Of course many don't also.
I will eat deer, rabbit, horse before black pudding 😁
You don’t know what you are missing real bury black puddings from Lancashire are the food of the gods and totally different than the long plastic covered monstrosities
I will eat deer, rabbit, horse before black pudding 😁
Deer is probably the most tasty of wild game meat.
Rabbit is commonly served around the Mediterranean Sea since they are easy to breed and multiply fast, but not much meat on them, tastes like chicken.
Horse is a common dish in many places around the world, somewhat leaner than beef.
Black pudding or blood pudding is also common around the world in different shapes and forms. An acquired taste.
Once I was in Northern Norway where they served whale, but unfortunately I didn't have the time to stay at that particular place. But still on my to-eat list.
One of my favorites is roasted duck, absolutely yummy.
Hi everyone, well this has gotten a bit off. But good reading. Well i made the Swedish Hasselback Potatoes. Really good and thank you guys for the ideal. Found a recipe with sage and Tyme. Made with baked chicken. was ready good. Now i want to change it up. And try it with zucchini . Cut it thicker and use the olive oil and butter some Italian spices and hard cheese. Wrap in foil and put on grill. That is the reason i started this post, Get some new ideals to make.
Now this discussion on what is ok to eat and not ok to eat. I find very funny. We are human and will eat anything. The longer one is hungry the more goes on the menu. Right up to other humans. If you get a chance to try Peru chicken it very good. Had it 2 times.
👍 for roast duck. We had duck instead of turkey for Thanksgiving last November. Sauce made from dried Michigan cherries, accompanied by Oregon pinot noir.
My wife and I are starting a keto diet for 30 days to put our bodies into ketosis. She made taco shells out of cheese and they were delicious. Being a cheese lover,I was thinking, I would eat these anytime!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
Tonight we made a chicken stew with sundried tomatoes, sambal oelek, garlic and smoked paprika. It was the first time we tried it, and it was really tasty. 😋
