Belgian commemorative 5 Centimes module, 1856, for the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of King Leopold. It was not meant for circulation, but equal in size as any copper 5 cts before 1860. Many of those 'medals' briefly circulated.

Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, 10 Centimes 1854. This was the first mintage year for this coin type and the first coin denominated in francs, which was the currency adopted by the new nation.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3800.html

Within the Latin monetary union, silver coinage was uniform in weight and fineness. The GD Luxemburg did not mint silver francs during the 19th century, but used Belgian or French instead. Until WW-I and after WW-II, the Luxemburg Franc was exchanged at parity with the Belgian Franc. During WW-II, Nazi Germany annexed Luxemburg into the third reich and introduced the Reichsmark, thereby skimming the wealth of the local population by an unfavorable exchange operation.

Belgian commemorative minted on a copper 10 Centimes module for the wedding of the Duke of Brabant, the later King Leopold II, to Maria Hendrika. The obverse pictures King Leopold I and has the year 1853, while the reverse pictures the young couple and has the date 21-22 August. This is the first of three commemorative medals minted by the Belgian Royal Mint during the 19th century.

Belgian 5 centimes, 1851, copper 28 mm & 10g
Pre 1860 copper coins were quite chunky for their face value. In 1860, the Beigian Royal Mint started minting 5, 10 and 20 Centimes in copper-nickel, a primer at that time.

Belgian 5 Francs, 1849. The design of the coin was changed that year. An example of the last coin with the 'old design', which was very similar to the French coins minted during the reign of Louis Philippe (same period):

The later design (mature buste of Leopold I) has been posted for 1851.

So it is 1848 today, and I am in the middle of making pictures of all coins I have 1800 to 1849, but I already see that I do not have 1847 - so I can not add to here tomorrow. Question is what if I or anyone else does not have a particular year on a particular day - on the next day do we skip that year? Getting more likely no dates available to members as this topic goes back; I have 29 missing years (but some of those below to cross off hopefully) to find today between those years above.  :snif:

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
I think the idea with progressing even without completing a year is a good idea. It's the slow thread after all and you can anticipate when which year is due and if you don't post by then you wouldn't necessarily post after that without begging "someone post XXXX already, please!" and it would become like the other thread right now.

To date, I've only got 9 more coins in between 1848 - 1720

I was going to put this instead but I remember in the rules that there must be a date on the coin, which there is none. The page below says they are made in 1844 otherwise I would not have known.

P.S. At the time of making the pictures I added, while I had the coin out, the measurements as well; as in those days especially UK coins, there was no denomination shown on the coin. So just a picture of the coin would not identify which one it was - as the farthing and halfpenny and penny all look alike, to me.  :)

I added both sides of coin there, but due to site malfunction they are not shown.

Well, all day yesterday (11-Jul-2014) everyone had the opportunity to add 1842 coins; so I guess it is alright today (12-Jul-2014) to add 1841 coins. For me tomorrow I can not add 1840 as I have none, but can on Monday as I have an 1839 coin. Towards the end of the month 1826 will be very easy for me as for some reason I have seven different coins with that date on.  :)

That link to a Numista page has this link for the obverse image

The first type of Belgian 5 Francs were in the same style as the French. Moreover, Louis Philippe was father in law of the first Belgian King Leopold. This 1833 coin has incuse edge lettering "Dieu protège la Belgique" (May God protect Belgium). Starting from the 1840's raised edge lettering would be used for the 5 Francs coins.
