Roy posted a much nicer G3 crown yesterday but I'm posting this anyway.

I admit I enjoy some coins in close to uncirculated/mint state condition.
But if a coin like this one could tell its story, what a story that would be!
A silver crown must have represented a substantial amount of wealth in 1818.
This particular one looks like it has been in the wars, passed many hands. What did it buy for its owners?

Thanks Don
I will choose an alternative coin.

In the same league as the 1817 shilling shown, let me add a half crown to that:

I got but a few coins left to bridge the gap to the 18th century: for the years 1813, 1811, 1810 and 1800.

Hi Mark
It is good to get a selection of different coins irrespective of condition.

What will be interesting is when we break into the 1700's

Prussia, 1/6th of a Thaler, Friedrich Wilhelm III, 1813.

By the late 1860's as the Mark was gradually replacing the Thaler, the exchange was 3.60 Mark to the Thaler. So this silver coin would have been worth 60 pfennig.

Italian States, Lombardia under Hapsburg rule (Holy Roman Empire), Kronenthaler 1800 minted in Milano (the 'M' mintmark on the obverse).

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces27567.html

The edge reads: "Lege et Fide". This implies the coin is not the extremely rare variant with 'Ivstitia et Fide', which is the (only) one found in the on-line Krause. Less common than most of the Kronenthaler from 1786-1796, it nevertheless is sold at a premium.

Italian States, Lombardia under the rule of the Holy Roman Empire. Crocione 1796 (Kronenthaler) minted in Milano. Obverse: Franciscus II, D(ei) G(ratia) R(omanum) I(mperator) S(emper) A(ugustus), Hier(osolymorum), Boh(emiae), Hung(ariae) Rex.  - Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, King of Bohemia and Hungaria.
"Hierosolymorum" doesn't indicate a region but a people: the Jews (literally inhabitants of Jeuzalem) living in Central Europe. Though not democratic, some 'enlighted monarchs' were far more cosmopolitic and tolerant to the variety of people, religions and cultures within their empire than many elected leaders in later centuries

Reverse: Burgundy cross with three crowns: the central imperial crown, a Kings crown and Archduke crown.
The legend 'Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burg(undy), Lorraine (Lotharia), Brab(ant) and Count of Flanders. Duke of Burgundy was a honorary title (as it was ruled by France). Lotharia was limited to its northernmost parts, more or less today's Grand Duchy of Luxemburg and the adjacent Belgian province. Sovereignty over the Austrian Netherlands was represented by the Golden Fleece in the lower sector of the Burgundy cross.

Kronenthaler 1794, minted in Brussels ('angelface' mintmark after the century in the date on the reverse)

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces28745.html

This was the only Kronenthaler under Franz II minted in 1794 at the Brussels mint workshop. The Holy Roman Empire lost the Austrian Netherlands to revolutionary France later that year. Most 1794 Kronenthalers still were circulating locally and they largely have been melted down at the currency change-over: this coin has become rare due to the low survivability. (Early Kronenthalers minted in Brussels are far more abundant: since they contain more silver than the Austrian Konventionsthaler, many were hoarded in Germany and Austria.)

One more year to go for Franz II. In 1792, he succeeded his father Leopold II, who reigned but briefly after having succeeded his brother Joseph II in 1790.

My oldest Franz II Kronenthaler was minted in 1793 at Kremnitz (mintmark B). now in Slovakia. It is considered fairly common.
